Hello lovely readers, I know I haven't been as active as I should be and that is partly due to this Blogger issue in Pakistan and partly because I've been feeling a bit weird. This changing weather is trying to get to me and I've been fighting it for weeks and haven't gotten completely ill yet though my sister already got caught twice! I hate having to deal with fever, sore throat and colds especially with such a busy university routine, so I thought I'd do a post on how I manage to fight these buggers!
2. AROMA THERAPY: Hahaha, Aroma therapy is too fancy a word for this but what the heck! I like to have some nice smelling candles in my room all year round but when I'm sick, I like to burn very light, herbal scents rather than strong, fruity or musky ones. The specific ones I like are Mint Rose and Lavender. They soothe the senses without overwhelming me and I find that Lavender scents are especially helpful in making me feel better when I feel nauseous. I don't know if that's just me or what but it works for me!
3. FRESH AIR: Even though very little of it is left in Lahore, it is rather nice to take a walk outside in the fresh air. Not only will it be a change of environment, it will be a step to getting better and feeling better with a little bit of exercise your body will start to get back into the process of your regular routine and the outdoors will uplift your mood! Being cooped up in bed doesn't do any good!
4. MAKE UP! Oh yes indeed, make up excites me generally, why shouldn't it make me feel better on a gloomy day? I find that when I'm sick I feel better when I put in some effort into the way I look when heading out of the home. I don't wear foundation daily but on days I'm sick I just feel like wearing it! I personally feel my skin gets drier when I'm sick, though I'm a combination girl, so I like using a foundation that feels moisturizing on the skin and gives a dewy finish! For the rest of my face, I skip the makeup except maybe some curl to the lashes and a bit of mascara and for my lips I absolutely HATE having greasy, moist lips when I'm sick, but also don't want them to stay dry so the EOS lipbalm is perfect for that. It's a slightly drier balm than most and that is exactly what I love it for. If I want a bit of coverage I go for the C.O.Bigelow Mentha Lip Tints, a sticky gloss so it stays put and doesn't slide off, plus the cooling effect of the menthol is very soothing as well.
5. COMFORT FOOD: I absolutely love eating anytime of the year, and if I'm NOT hungry then that means there's something seriously wrong and someone needs to call the doctor :P Being sick gives me crazy cravings but I love having some nice warm comfort food! I love making some pasta, spinach soup (rich in iron content), and a potato salad in sour cream, those are my go to comfort foods! And ofcourse who can forget french fries. Nomnom.
And when I'm not suffering from a cold or a sore throat, this is my retreat to lift my mood! :D I also like to drink mint infused green tea, because I don't like normal chai very much, or coffee, and I think having a herbal infusion tea is best for a cold or sore throat! Try some, they come in all kinds of flavours and what not!
6 STAY HEALTHY: Last but not the least, before you even get sick and need things to make you feel better, you want to try not to get sick at all which is why it is very important to keep yourself healthy and maintain a proper diet. Eat lots of fruits, greens and try to cut down junk and caffeine to a minimum! I used to be a Coca Cola and coffee addict, and if I can cut down I think anyone can because with me people honestly thought there was no going back! With the weather change another important thing to take care of is water, drink lots of it, because in winters you may not feel as thirsty but you really do need it! Stay away from cold or iced water/drinks, they are harmful for you in any weather anyways!
Hope this post will be helpful for someone in some little way! :) Let me know what you do to combat the signs of illness or things that make you feel better in the comments! Or tell me what kind of makeup do you do to uplift your mood? Or do you go au naturel when down with some illness? Have a great day and stay away from the germies ;) Hahah! Till next time!
