REVIEW: Essence Gel Eyeliner - Midnight in Paris!

Something about a simple classy black eyeliner is just unbeatable even by the most beautifully done elaborate eye makeup. To achieve a flawless eyeliner, it is essential to have a good product to work with. Does the Essence Gel Eyeliner in Midnight in Paris deliver perfect precision and finish? Let's find out!

Like most gel eyeliners, this Essence one comes in small glass pot with a plastic lid. Pretty basic. The packaging is pretty good and  nice n' easy to use.

You get 3 grams of product which is good enough to last someone who wears eyeliner daily for 4-5 months. I have had mine since August this year and is still nowhere near its end. It also still as soft as the day I got it unlike the gel liners from my haunting past that have dried out within a month of use. I actually waited like months just to get my hands on this baby because everytime I went to the store they would only have an unsealed one and the sales lady would try to sell me the used one with a crater of a dip in it which according to her had only been "lightly tested". Right. Moving on.

To apply this I use a brush, usually an angled brush or the Sigma E05 brush and it dips into the pot without any extra effort. Once on the brush, the gel eyeliner transfers most beautifully to the eye. It glides on nicely but if you take too much time the product sets on your brush and then applies patchy onto the eyelid and does not apply with ease and feels dry. This is my only complaint with the product, it dries way too fast so you need to be quick and it takes a bit of practice to work with this specific gel eyeliner.

The shade Midnight in Paris is a true matte black. I have no idea why my arm looks so pale, but you can see that the liner is an intense black even with just a single swipe! The first swatch has dried to a super matte finish while the heavier swatches still look a bit creamy and are on they way to set. Once set the liner won't budge and it is definitely waterproof but and contrary to what I expected from a no-budge waterproof liner it is fairly easy to clean off. After a long day in hot weather it will start to fade by the 10 hour mark so if you're looking for something longer lasting, you may want to check out some other product. On my waterline it is an intense black that doesn't run or fade for a good 6-8 hours depending on how often I rub my eyes or something so that also has me impressed!

I absolutely love the crisp and precise lines this gel eyeliner gives me although it takes some time to adapt to working faster with this than my regular liquid liner it is an absolute gem of a product!

I absolutely love this little pot of goodness! It dries a little too fast for me personally and that causes a bit of an issue in application and while it may not be comparable to high end gel liners it is a really good product at the price of only 530 PKR. I may just have converted to gel because I have been ignoring my favorite liquid liner which I absolutely loveeee and have been going back to for the past 6 years! Omg. Just saying that feels like I'm cheating on it but I don't know, I like this Essence one. Hah!

LOVES:
-Super pigmented.
-Intense black color.
-Applies creamy but sets to a matte finish.
-Stays fresh for months in the pot (I will update incase it dries out soon).
-Affordable.
-Last long enough.
-Doesn't sting my eyes.

DISLIKES:
-Dries and sets super fast.

My Rating:

4/5: Loveeee this!

Let me know what your favorite black eyeliner is! Or have you ever found a new product that you suddenly fall in love with so much that you feel like you're cheating on (what you thought was) your one true love? Hahaha! Stay beautiful!

    1. Oh no! I wish these came sealed because then the salesgirls or anyone else wouldn't be able to open them up! Maybe that's why it dried!? Thankyou btw! <3

  9. For some reason all my gel liners dries out pretty fast. After all the rave reviews, I bought this gel liner and it dried too and as much as I still love applying it, the little chunks drop when I apply (maybe because it dries fast)

    1. Haww! Seriously? I know it applies chunky sometimes when it has dried on my brush I think it sets way too fast for me lol because I like to take my time applying liner! Maybe its also because these don't come sealed and people are always opening them up at the counter!

  11. I got mine in January 2012 and ofcourse it has dried up, almost two years is an impossibly long time for a gel eyeliner to stay soft and workable! But I still make it work somehow, need to get a new one but it's out of stock everywhere it seems!
I love the intense wing you've created <3
